Sedentary society
This world has become, dare I say it… LAZY!! Think about how society was through out history? Our ancestors WALKED everywhere. As new invention came along we became LAZIER and LAZIER!!

It’s not actually your fault if you have gone along with it. Unfortunately it’s not good for us. And to negate the negative health effects of sedentary life, we have to MAKE AN EFFORT!!! Get off your … and MOVE!! ATLEAST stand. I recently wrote a blog about how standing is great just not for weight loss.

Standing is STILL more beneficial than sitting. Standing puts much less stress for your back. Obviously standing isn’t an active thing. It won’t burn a significant amount of calories as I said in the previous blog post.

What about step count?!

It can be easy for people who drive to work (or work from home) and sit at a desk most of the day to fall into sedentary habits, defined by less than 5,000 steps per day. In fact, the average American walks just 1.5–2 miles (or roughly 3,500–4,000 steps) a day. When you’re sedentary for long periods of time, it can lead to health issues such as an increased risk of heart disease, high blood pressure and obesity.

This is why I HIGHLY recommend that if you are in a wheelchair or even if you aren’t that you stand (or use a standing frame) at a standing desk (or elevated surface) to work at. Think about this:  you wake up and SIT on the toilet, then you SIT at the table for breakfast, then you SIT in the car or on the bus to commute to work, then you SIT all day at your job, SIT to travel home, SIT for dinner, a then SIT to wind down and go to bed.

Then you repeat that process day in and day out. How many hours of sitting is that?! Do you do this? Do you think it's good for you?!

Research has found taking more steps per day lowers your risk of dying of any cause, regardless of your age, gender and race. The study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association showed people who increased their step count from 4,000 to 8,000 steps per day had a 51% lower risk of death from all causes. When they walked 12,000 steps per day, their risk of death from all causes was 65% lower than those who only walked 4,000 steps.
